Last weekend, the city of Mariana welcomed the free of charge animal adoption event, which aimed at finding new homes for dogs and cats rescued from the region impacted by the Fundão Dam burst. The event was held by Samarco, with support from Mariana’s City Hall, from the Animal Protection Special Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais and also from animal protection NGOs.
In total, 83 animals found new homes, which accounts for about 90% of campaign effectiveness. All 74 dogs and 9 cats adopted were castrated, vaccinated and wormed.
There are still 28 animals eligible for adoption and those who could not attend the event can still adopt any of them. Interested individuals should contact (31) 3559-5425 and schedule a visit to the Animal Collection and Care Center (Rodovia MG-129, S/N, km 138 – Mariana). The adoption process is concluded by means of a personal interview performed on site.
