Financial support for the families affected

11/12/2015

This Friday, December 11, Samarco delivered financial support cards to 50 families of the site and districts of the municipality of Barra Longa, which lost its source of income after the accident of the dams. Through the card, a minimum wage salary will be paid monthly to each family for a limited time, including an additional 20% to each dependent, and staple foods in the amount of R$338.61. The delivery will be done until all eligible families are assisted.

The deposits will be performed until the 5th business day of each month. For the first credit, the amount is retroactive to November 5. With the card, the families will be able to buy groceries at diverse businesses, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, butchers, and transfers can be made at ATMs.

The financial support does not represent any compensation for losses and damages, and is paid even if the family receives social benefits, such as Bolsa Família (Welfare) and retirement.

Who gets it?
The support is destined to families that were affected directly or had their income affected by the accident, according to the registration made by Samarco and the Civil Defense of Barra Longa.

The family cores staying at the homes of relatives or friends, and those accommodated in hotels or temporary homes, including dependents of any age, such as uncle, grandmother, brothers and children will be assisted.
A study is underway to provide the financial support to farmers and those with houses that were not affected, but were isolated. The proposal will be discussed with the bodies of human rights protection.
