Samarco has been working steadily on assisting in the recovery of the economy and livelihood of the communities impacted by the Fundão dam collapse. These actions include a vocational training courses in culinary arts and handicraft, promoted by the Company for the communities of Barra Longa, Mariana and districts, as well as the offer of jobs in the recovery works. The courses provided equipment, teaching materials, tools and accessories to promote learning, and had the participation of over 220 residents.

Currently 225 people from the affected communities are working on recovery works. In Barra Longa alone, there are 11 work fronts, which include renovation of houses and streets and containment structures on the Gualaxo and Carmo rivers.

Another noteworthy achievement is the resumption of operation of the pout pepper jam factory, which is a trademark of Bento Rodrigues. There are now nine residents working at the new factory in Mariana producing an average of 400 jars of jam every day.

Samarco is also helping rural producers and small business operators to resume their work routine, offering them all the necessary support and equipment.
