Turbidity plume will not cause flooding

14/11/2015

According to a report issued on Saturday, 14 November, by the Mineral Resource Research Company – Companhia de Pesquisa de Recursos Minerais (CPRM) of the Brazilian Geological Service, the turbidity plume will not cause any flooding in the municipalities of the State of Espírito Santo which are located on the banks of the Doce River.

This organization is monitoring the river bed 24/7, real time, to accompany the traveling plume which, this Saturday, was slowly moving past the city of Resplendor, in Minas Gerais.

Samarco is taking preventive measures, in collaboration with public entities, to assure the supply of potable and mineral water in the cities along the river. Forty three water tank trucks have already been sent to the cities of Colatina and Baixo Guandu. Special attention will be given to hemodialysis centers, as well as hospitals, schools, shelters and penitentiaries.

The company has also put in practice a monitoring plan through collection and analysis of water and sediment samples along the course of the Gualaxo do Norte, Carmo and Doce Rivers. This work will provide a baseline for the definition of an impact control plan.
