The Governor of Minas Gerais, Fernando Pimentel, announced, on Saturday the 14th, that the water supply in the State´s municipality of Governador Valadares would be resumed shortly.
It is important to point out that, since the incoming water has to go through pipes and water tanks, it may arrive slightly turbid at people´s homes. In any case, Samarco’s emergency measures will continue to be carried out. So far, the Company has sent to the distribution points 8.436 million liters of potable water and 404 thousand liters of mineral water for the population of the municipality. There are 14 distribution points informed by the media and on the Samarco site, at samarco.com.
A plan has been developed for treating the water from the Doce River, which supplies the municipalities of Governador Valadares, Aimorés, Colatina and Baixo Guandu, and 180 tons of a natural product are being provided to accelerate the clarification of the water.
In addition to supplying this product, Samarco is offering technical support to the operators involved in this work in the region.
