According to tests performed on Sunday morning, November 22nd, the efficiency of the containment barriers installed in the protected areas in Regência, district of Linhares, Espírito Santo, was as much as 80% compared to the turbidity level of the water downstream of the barrier.
To help in these endeavors, Samarco has hired Golder Associates, a company specialized in disasters of this magnitude, which will be in charge of the development of the planning, management and supervision of the actions to be implemented in all the impacted areas along the Doce River. Samarco is also discussing partnering with other environmental institutions, such as the Instituto Terra of famed photographer Sebastião Salgado, focused on the environmental rehabilitation of the watersheds along the river.
