Some 40 specialists, among biologists and veterinarians, are working daily on the rescue of aquatic fauna along the entire length of the Doce River, in the State of Espírito Santo. The work includes the capture of fish and crustaceans, identification of the species and storage in a gene bank before the passage of the turbidity plume.
Samarco, in partnership with the Institute for Research and Rehabilitation of Marine Animals (Ipram) and Aquambiental, has been rescuing fish and crustaceans, taking them to tanks of the IFES in Itapina, Colatina (ES) and of the Tamar Project, so that in the future they can be used to repopulate the river. So far, 6 species of fish considered endangered or rare have been rescued.
Species of aquatic fauna were also collected for laboratory analysis before and after the arrival of the plume. This work is performed by the company Bioma Estudos Ambientais.
