Financial support to the riparian residents of MG and ES

05/12/2015

On December 11, Samarco began delivering financial support cards to the riparian families of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, who lost their native source of income from the activities related to the Doce River, such as fishing and extraction of sand and stone. The support integrates the Conduct Adjustment Term settled yesterday, December 4, by Samarco and by the Ministry of Public Labor Prosecution from both states.

The cards will be distributed progressively as Samarco receives the registrations of the families surveyed by the international consultancy company, Golder Associates from Canada. Thus, Golder Associates handles the registration and Samarco delivers the card within ten days.

Amount

The support contemplates the monthly payment of a minimum wage salary to each family, plus an additional 20% of the salary to each dependent and staple foods in the amount of R$ 338.61. To define the amount for staple foods, Samarco based itself on the publication of the Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socio-Economic Studies (DIEESE).

The money will be made available through a debit card accepted for grocery shopping at diverse business establishment and allows withdraws at ATMs, and allows the cardholders to make transfers to their personal accounts.

The credit will be made available on the 5th business day of each month. The financial support does not represent any compensation for the loss and damage, and is paid even if the family receives social benefits, such as the Bolsa Família (Family Allowance) and retirement.

The cards will be delivered to the cardholders registered by Gold Associates.  The person will receive a sealed envelope with the card and pin number, orientations to activate the card and the step by step procedure on how to use the card.
