Since November 2015, actions are being developed regarding the recovery of real estate and commercial establishments impacted by the disruption of Fundão dam. To date, 92 houses of the Barra Longa and Mariana municipalities have already been renovated and another 33 are undergoing works. Trade in the region is also being reestablished and some shopkeepers have returned to their activities. 28 commercial establishments have been delivered and 6 are still under works.
All properties have undergone renovation in their civil, hydraulic and electrical parts and had their furniture and inventories reinstated, as demanded by residents and businessmen. Some of these establishments are still in the process of having their items replaced. As the items still pending do not prevent the functioning of the commercial activities, it was decided to carry out the delivery, thus ensuring that traders resume their activities as soon as possible.
In addition to the real estate renovations, a retaining wall at the edge of the Carmo River was built in the Barra Longa region. The structure is 300 meters long and serves as a protection at the river margins near homes and lands on the Morro Vermelho neighborhood. The wall is made of gabion, an armed, flexible, draining structure of great durability and strength. Thus, the land gained even more sustenance and houses built in the region remain safe.
