Students enrolled in the Mariana elementary public school system participated in an art contest involving all schools. Maria Eduarda dos Santos, a 4th grade student from the Joaquim Emílio Baptista Municipal School, district of Goiabeiras, won in the character category. “I chose the dog because it likes to jump, play, run, and also because it is the man’s best friend. We must act in a spirit of friendship and respect to opponents, since the important thing is to participate. The blue, yellow, red and green colors represent the colors of the Mariana Flag” she explained.
The mascot name category was won by student Yara Aparecida Tomaz, also from the 4th grade of the Joaquim Emílio Baptista Municipal School, district of Goiabeiras. Zecão was the name chosen for the mascot.
