Distribution of mineral water in Governador Valadares will be discontinued

17/01/2016

Always based on an ongoing dialogue with the community, Samarco is starting a new phase of work in Governador Valadares.

According to a determination of the Federal Courts, who oversaw the laboratory analyses carried out by the competent entities, the water which is being supplied to the homes of the local residents is potable and of good quality. In view of these positive results, the distribution of mineral water in the city will end on January 22nd.

After the first phase of emergency actions, now the time has come to join forces to find solutions to meet the needs of the locality.

To this end, Samarco has approved the construction of a tunnel to optimize water supply to the region of Penha, and, working together with an engineering group, is studying the best alternative source for water intake. In addition, it has already built and delivered to the municipality a water supply pipeline of almost 3 km, from the Suaçui Grande river to the water treatment plant of Recanto dos Sonhos.

Other actions are also being developed by the Company, as you can see below:

Monitoring of water quality

– two points of continuous monitoring on the Doce River, as instructed by IBAMA;

– automation of the water treatment processes at the main treatment plant of SAAE;

– use of a natural coagulant to neutralize the impurity loads in water to be treated;

– Distribution of over 74 million liters of potable water and 30 million liters of mineral water.

Unfailing support to the community

– Support to the riverside residents, through an emergency financial assistance card;

– Hiring of 100 health workers.
