Empregados da Samarco aprovam proposta de suspensão temporária de contratos de trabalho

Samarco’s employees in Germano (MG), Ubu (ES), and from the administrative area, approved today (Thursday, 26th April, 2017), the new layoff period proposed by both Samarco and the Trade Unions.

The temporary suspension of the work contracts for some of the company’s employees was approved in Ubu and had an acceptance of 682 in Germano.

The new layoff period proposal was accepted and perceived as the best solution to maintain jobs, since the company has had its operational activities paralyzed since November 2015.

During the third layoff period, as negotiated with the Trade Unions “Sindimetal” (ES) and “Metabase” (MG), the employees will receive, among other benefits, a professional qualification grant and a monthly compensatory aid.

The suspension of the contracts will begin on June 1st and will last until July 31st, and may be extended within the periods established in the labor legislation. At the moment, Samarco maintains its workforce of about 1,800 employees. From now on, the company will define the group of employees that will have their contracts temporarily suspended.

Since the Fundão Dam Burst in November 2015, Samarco has realized a series of actions to preserve its jobs:

  • Paid leave (from November, 10th, 2015 to November, 29th, 2015)
  • Collective vacations (From November, 30th, 2015 to December, 29th, 2015)
  • Second period of paid leave (From January, 4th, 2016 to January, 10th, 2016)
  • First period of layoff (From January, 25th, 2016 to April, 25th, 2016)
  • Second period of layoff (From April, 25th, 2016 to June, 25th, 2016)
