Water treatment plants in the municipalities along the Doce River were re-established and a number of improvements have been implemented in the treatment systems in order to ensure the quality of the water for domestic consumption.
In Governor Valadares, for example, a pipeline, which is an alternative catchment system to the Recanto dos Sonhos Water Treatment Plant, was constructed. The pipeline has 2.7 km and a flow of more than 2.6 million liters of water daily, being able to serve more than 10,000 people per day. Furthermore, the Suaçuí Grande River alternative catchment project is under study, undergoing the Conceptual Engineering phase. The study has the participation of the City Hall and of SAAE. The Resplendor municipality will also receive new pipeline, which will capture water from the Barroso stream in order to supply the city.
In addition to the works developed in the water treatment plants, nine wells have been drilled in five municipalities along the Doce River as alternative water catchment sources. The water from the wells goes to treatment and follows, already potable, to the supply networks. In the rural properties, which are more distant from the cities, the water supply is carried out by tank trucks.
The re-establishment of the water treatment plants in the municipalities along the Doce River aims to ensure that water is drinkable after treatment. The action is part of the 41 programs that integrate the Conduct Adjustment Transactional Term (TTAC), signed with the Federal governments and the governments of the states of Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo.
