More than half of the families are already at rented homes

This Friday, November 11, Samarco finished transferring 50% of the homeless families to temporary residences rented by the company. With the 12 families transferred yesterday, 200 of the 396 families affected by the accident of the dam in the districts of Mariana and Barra Longa already have adequate living conditions. A total of 754 families were accommodated.

The furniture was chosen by the families themselves after Samarco presented the available options. The houses suggested considered the specific needs and wishes of each family, and was previously presented by the company’s representatives.

All houses included furniture, appliances, utensils, and trousseaus acquired giving preference to suppliers of the same region. Before moving, the company also supplied the houses with food, cleaning and personal hygiene products and drinking water.

The transfer of the other families staying at hotels, lodges and the homes of relatives in the regions, totaling 545 people, continues being done daily by Samarco with the active participation of the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance. The moving order follows the priorities defined by the residents themselves, twice a week in meetings, by representative of the community impacted, with Samarco, the Public Ministry of Mariana and other competent bodies.
