Iron, aluminum, manganese and turbidity – the variation of these four parameters of the water treated by the local water utility SAAE can be seen by the population in the streets of Governador Valadares. Five digital billboards installed by Samarco supply up-to-date information about the quality control of the water supply in the municipality, showing two videos.
The videos bring information related to four tests: three of them performed by prestigious independent laboratories (Compesa, from Recife; Caesb, from Brasília; and Sanepar, from Curitiba) and the fourth performed by SAAE itself on a daily basis.
The samples sent to the labs were collected on the 20th of December 2015 and generated in the presence of an officer of the Federal Justice. In addition, a technician from the Corplab laboratory was assigned to assist the chemist in charge of the SAAE sampling and testing. A structured collection plan was defined, including turbidity in the field, collection log sheet, seal, chain of custody, parameters for analysis, photos and other necessary record-keeping.
