Residents of Gesteira, district of Barra Longa (MG), approved during meeting carried out on March 16, Samarco’s proposal for the reconstruction of Capanema Municipal School. Through voting, the community decided that the building will be integrated into an existing square, which also has a sports court. The company is opening bid for the procurement of a company to perform the construction work, expected to be completed in August.
It was also defined the adoption of the construction method known as PVC Concrete, locking system in which the walls are made of hollow profiles, coupled together and filled with concrete and structural steel. Authorities and representatives of the community travelled to Anchieta (ES) to learn about a building constructed by the company using the same technology that is faster and provides some advantages, such as better acoustics, thermal insulation and ease of cleaning.
Company and community follow in negotiations to define processes for the reconstruction of the church, the parish hall, a football pitch, a community vegetal garden and eight affected residences. The idea is that the social facilities and houses are built next to each other in an area yet to be defined.
Samarco has kept constant dialogue with Mariana Town Hall, the archdiocese and the community. During meetings held since January, the community has presented some plots of land as options, while Samarco has produced an additional proposal. The land of preference by the community will be chosen for the construction.
