On its journey, Samarco has taken on a commitment to safety and improvement. We will resume operation without the use of a tailings dam but with the use of a filtering system and dry stacking.
This is a new path, and this week, we reached another milestone towards recovery: the completion of the first phase of the Alegria Sul Pit Tailings Disposal System.
UNDERSTAND THIS MILESTONE
We concluded the first stage of the works at the Alegria Sul Pit, a site that will be used as an area for tailings disposal. Material (ore and sterile) was removed and preparation of the land. We also started the second phase of the project, which is the electromechanical assembly of the pumping system for mud, tailings and water – which will allow the structure to operate.
OUR JOURNEY CONTINUES
The effort to adopt new safety standards in our activities has brought about important changes in our company, such as the decision to resume operations only after the full implementation of the filtering system. This measure also ensures a resumption marked by safety, transparency, innovation and less environmental impact.
In the process, the sandy tailings (80% of the total generated) will be filtered, which will allow for dry stacking, a more secure form of residue disposal. In addition, the extracted water will be recirculated.

THE NEED FOR PROGRESS
Samarco is aware that doing things differently requires determination and effort. Only this way will we be able to start over again, transforming mineral resources into value for society. We move forward, focusing on our values: respect the people, integrity, mobilization for results and security. Always with our feet on the ground, one step at a time.
