Last Thursday, March 28th, Samarco and Foundation Renova signed a collaboration term with the Minas Gerais’ Court of Justice in order to provide an adequate conflicts resolution related to the temporary interruption of the water supply and distribution as a consequence of the Fundão dam burst. For Samarco, the term is another step in the company’s commitment to repair and to compensate in an agile way the impacts generated to the population.
At the time, the water supply for the residents of the region was temporarily interrupted, leading to the filing of a considerable volume of lawsuits.
During the ceremony, which was attended by the president of the TJMG, Judge Herbert Carneiro, the CEO of Samarco, Roberto Carvalho, reinforced that the signature of the term meant another step in the commitment to repair and to compensate for the impacts caused by the Fundão dam burst:
“Samarco remains fully committed to finding the best and the quickest responses to the demands from impacted people and it is precisely for this purpose that we signed the term. In this particular case, the purpose of Samarco, the Renova Foundation and the Judicial power is the same: to facilitate and to expedite the repair of the damages caused to the impacted people by temporarily suspending the drinking water supply in their cities.”
The term seeks to expedite the payment of indemnities for interruption in the water supply.
