As of December 10th, Samarco has taken full responsibility for managing all services and supplies required to the quality of life of the animals affected by the dam accident. The purpose of this initiative is to ensure continuous care of all species in a structured and planned manner. Samarco will have the assistance of Brandt Meio Ambiente, a company with experience in programs and studies in the environmental area in Brazil and abroad.
Thanks to the joint effort of the Ouro Preto Animal Protection Association (AOPA), Institute for the Defense of Animal Rights (IDDA), National Animal Defense Forum (FNDA), Congressman Noraldino Júnio, chairman of the Extraordinary Committee for Animal Protection and the team, Luisa Mell Institute, Veterinários da Estrada (On the Road Veterinarians), Red Cross, Fire Department, Lafaiete Animal Protection Association, 4×4 Brigade, independent Protectors, veterinarian students and Samarco, it was possible to rescue, medicate and assist to date more than 4,600 animals, among those which remain with their owners in rural properties and those temporarily sheltered in facilities near Mariana. A genuine task-force which allowed the emergency assistance to each one of the species.
For those willing to bring love to the animals, the entrance of volunteers will be allowed from 8AM to 5PM, every day of the week, according to the rules of the volunteer regulation, which only allows the entrance of people over 18 years old and a 4-hour workload per day.
