414 children in kindergarten and the early elementary school years of Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu de Baixo, Mariana districts, as well as Barra Longa, including the district of Gesteira, participated in the Book Week promoted by Samarco in April. The students were contemplated by the initiative, which was a partnership with the Cultural Association “Club Osquindô”.
The action was part of the celebrations for the National Children’s Book Day on April 18th, the birth date of Brazilian author Monteiro Lobato, and aimed to encourage the practice of reading, strengthening creativity through play and dynamic activities, approaching children and books. The program, held on the 19th, 27th and 28th, had theatre performances and Minas Gerais state culture storytelling.
In Barra Longa, the event took place at the José Vasconcelos Lanna Municipal School and at the Claudionor Lopes State School, besides the Gustavo Capanema Municipal School, located in Gesteira. The children of Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu de Baixo participated in the action at the headquarters of the Osquindô Club, located in Passagem, district of Mariana, where they visited the Osquindoteca library.
Osquindô club
The Osquindô Club is a cultural association focused on the development of children and youth through art and reading. It brings together the work of artists, educators and technicians who act in various fronts. Some of its projects are “Crazy for Reading”, “Osquindoteca”, “Osquindô Band”, “Little Big Meeting” and “Playing Travelling Salesmen”.
