On Wednesday (25), Australian Ambassador to Brazil, Mr. Timothy Kane, was received at the Germano Complex in Mariana, by the unit’s general manager, Mr. Juarez Lopes de Morais, and Geotechnics manager, Mr. Cesar Alves. The agenda aimed to present the operational safety initiatives that are being implemented by the company. During the visit, the ambassador reinforced the growing involvement of Australian mining companies with safety technology and mine monitoring systems, as well as their commitment to providing information on best practices in the industry.
According to Ambassador Kane, “It was very important to get to know Samarco and see the changes, improvements and transparency within the company. Mining in Brazil has a more positive future ahead and I am very optimistic after today’s visit, as I recognize that the changes I have seen here are very similar to those in Australia today.” He also pointed out, based on what was seen at the Monitoring and Inspection Center (MIC), that the monitoring of Samarco’s geotechnical structures is very similar to that performed in his country.
