Financial support to fishermen and riparians

11/12/2015

Samarco commenced the distribution of debit cards for the fishermen and riparians who had their subsistence impacted by the accident in Mariana. This is the first step foreseen by the Social Attention Plan for Fishermen and Riparians, elaborated in partnership with the State and Federal Public Ministry and the Ministry of Labor, with which the company signed a Term of a Preliminary Socio Environment Commitment.

The cards were delivered on December 10 in Resplendor (MG) and Colatina (ES) during the meetings with the leaders of eight associations and colonies that represent the fishermen of Vale do Rio Doce. The plan will assist workers from 37 municipalities along 600 kilometers of the Doce River, who are impeded from performing their activities at the river.

The subsidy is an emergency measure and contemplates the monthly payment of a minimum wage salary per riparian worker, plus an additional 20% of the salary to each dependent, and the amount of staple foods (DIEESE reference).

It is foreseen that, until the end of February 2016, all workers contemplated by the Plan will receive the support.

How does the card work?
The financial support for the fishermen and riparians will be made available through a debit card that can be used for groceries shopping at authorized businesses, withdraws at ATMs, including immediate transfers of the amounts to other banks of the beneficiary.

The credit will be applied on the 5th business day of each month. Except for the first, which will depend on the date the card is issued. The amount to be deposited is retroactive to November 5 2015.
