Back to school

16/11/2015

Classes started again on Monday, November 16th, for the 170 students of the two schools from Bento Rodrigues and Paracatu impacted by the dam rupture, at the school Dom Luciano Pedro de Almeida, in Mariana.

The students, aged 4 to 17, elementary to secondary school, each received from Samarco a kit consisting of school backpack, notebook, pencil, pen and coloring pencils. The Company is also offering chartered transportation for the students and teachers to this school. The 57 teachers have received psychological counseling.

In order to enhance their adjustment at the new school, all of the students will have the same teacher and the same group of classmates until the end of the school year.

According to the head of the local Board of Education, Elizabeth Cota, the objective is to make the students feel welcome and secure, and to maintain the bond that already existed among them and with the staff. “Going back to school happened very quickly after the meeting we had. We are going to be with the friends we were used to seeing at school”, said 9th year student Eliziane Fernanda Salgado.

The students from Barra Longa go back to school this Thursday, November 19th.
